The flag and arms of Žetale are prescribed by Decision Odlok o istovetnostih simbolih Občine Žetale, adopted on 13 September 2000 and published in the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 88/2000, amended by Odlok o spremembah in dopolnitvah odloka o istovetnostnih simbolih Občine Žetale (text), adopted on 14 September 2001 and published on 21 September 2001 in Uradni list Republike Slovenije, 74/2001.
The symbols were designed by Valt Jurečič of Heraldika d.o.o. and Heraldica Slovenica, who kindly provided drawings from which the images shown on this page were made.
The flag is rectangular, in proportions 2:5, vertically divided
green-yellow-green, the yellow stripe forming a square containing
the chestnut from the coat of arms. There is no
data on possible vertical hoisting.
The symbols, inaugurated during the celebration of the Municipality Day, were brought to the Mayor by the oldest citizen of the municipality,
together with Valt Jurečič. The symbols were consecrated ny the parish priest, Štefan Zver. Flags were delivered to village councils, schools, parishes and various municipal societies.

The coat of arms of Žetale is divided per fess embattled, on the
middle embattlement stands into the green field St. Michael's flaming
sword topped with scales and in base a chestnut proper with two
leaves.
The symbols stand for St. Michael (scales), walls that stood around the church under the thread of Ottoman raids, and an open chuestnut, also featured in the flag.
