Municipal flag of Komen, horizontal and vertical versions - Images by Želkjo Heimer, 22 July 2006

The flag and arms of Komen are prescribed by Decision Odlok o grbu in zastavi ObČine Komen, adopted on 21 June 2006 and published on 13 July 2006 in
the official Slovene gazette Uradni list Republike Slovenije,
73/2006.
Black and white drawings of the symbols are attached to the Decision.
The symbols were designed by Valt Jurečič of Heraldika d.o.o. and Heraldica Slovenica, who kindly provided drawings from which the images shown on this page were made.
The flag is rectangular, in proportions 1:2, blue with a white central lenghtwise stripe interrupted
in the middle, thus forming there a rectangular panel into which the
main attribute from the coat of arms - the sun within the portal - is
set. Unlike most of the municipal flags designed by Valt Jurečič, this one is in proportions 1:2 and the panel containing the attribute is not square, but 40% of the
flag length wide. The white stripe is 1/3 of the flag width wide.
The text of the Decision requires the attribute in the central panel
to be not smaller then 2/3 of the flag width and not bigger the 8/10
of the same width. However, this is technically not quite possible:
the attribute with the smallest prescribed size would be oversized,
although fitting into the panel, whereas the attribute with the largest prescribed size would
extend over the white stripes or would touch them (depending if by size of the attribute is meant its height or width). Therefore, I have considered
that the height of the attribute should be between 2/3 and 8/10 of the panel
width (and not the flag width); the drawing attached to the
Decision in the official gazette above actually matches this.
There is also a vertical version of the flag, with the attribute rotated accordingly.

Former flag of Komen - Image tentatively reconstructed by by Željko Heimer, 25 December 2003
According to a picture shown on the
municipal
website (image no longer online), the former flag of Komen might be horizontally divided light blue-yellow with a yellow square above a light blue square near the
hoist. On the picture used as the source, the flag is partially furled
around the flagstaff and possible emblems added on the flag cannot be
seen.
Stanič & Jakopič [j2s05] does not mention any symbol for Komen but a "tourist emblem".
