Empresa Insulana de Navegação (a.k.a. African Line): a
simple flag with letters EINS on it, but at the back cover of this
1971
brochure on line (from Björn Larsson’s collection) where we
find a flag with three horizontal stripes and letters EIN in the centre,
lighter one. Luckily, it’s in the 1912 Lloyd’s Flags &
Funnels [llo11] under No. 1319 on p.
64, (see left image above) available
on-line: white with narrow blue upper and lower horizontal borders,
blue letters "E.I.N." (no serifs) in the centre for «Empreza
Insulana de Navegaçao (Bensaude & Co.), Lisbon». An
alternative name for this venerable firm, according to
The Ships List
website, was Insular Line, and Blue-white-blue horizontal triband, in white stripe inscription in serifed dotted blue initials "E.I.N." (in Flaggenbuch 1905, part V, p.67a, image 338 (see central image above).
