About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of blue and white.

Coat of arms

Shield Or, three arrows Azure in saltire, headed, plumed and tied Gules, issuant from base a doublemount Vert, in chief a goshawk Purpure, holding in his claws an inescutcheon Azure, charged with five plates in quincunx. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "GINETES".
Meaning:
The goshawk is a local symbol of the Açores. The quina is a national symbol. The arrows are an attribute of St. Sebastian, the local patron saint.
