During the German Invasion of Poland in 1939, German soldiers conducted a massacre in the area. 24 Poles were mass murdered on 7 September 1939. The victims were mostly farmers and refugees and elderly people (up to 80 years old). For no particular reason - just to spread terror.
Arms and flag adopted on January 27, 2006 (resolution # XXXV/189/06).
"Arms: on a silver (white) shield a red head of "tur" (aurochs
or urus = Bos taurus primigenius) above three light blue lilies.
Flag: rectangular piece of cloth in the ratio 5:8 divided into three
color bands: light blue-white-red.
Light blue band is 3/7 of the width of the flag, white band is 1/7
of the total width and the red band is 3/7 of the width of the flag.
The Arms are placed centrally on the flag. Proportion of the height
of the shield with Arms to the length of the flag is 7:10."
