An 'E' cross eh: we had an 'F' cross recently and does this, in your opinion, come under the same heading?  Are there any more of this general type in the pipeline, and/or are there any more (that you know of) which I cannot remember already on fotw?

What you call 'F' cross is on this page (among others). The so-called 'E' cross is fairly common.
In my opinion both of these crosses belong to the same category. There is a website, which describes both of them in one paragraph (#61 and # 62) as the heraldic device signifying the conversion from paganism to Christianity and the fight to defend the faith.
I believe we will encounter more of these crosses soon, although not too many of them appear on flags but pop out here and there in the Coat of Armśs of the communes.
