The ranks in the Norwegian military underwent some changes in 1997. One effect of this was the introduction of the rank of Flaggkommandør, (Flag Commander/Commodore) in the Royal Norwegian Navy. A one star flag was introduced for this rank as of 1 January 1999.
I have now had confirmed that a similar flag has been introduced for the "Brigader" rank, which was also reintroduced in 1997. Whereas a Flag Commander/Commodore flies a flag with a white star in the war ensign, Brigadiers in the Army and Air Force fly a flag with one yellow star in the war flag. This flag was also introduced as of 1 January 1999.
