Blazon: På blå bunn to sølv langskip.
In English: Azure two Viking ships argent.
Approved by the royal resolution of 7 May 1971 after a drawing by Hallvard Trætteberg. [c2j87]
The Norwegian blazon call the ships "long ships" and they are shown with the beast heads at each end. Such were found in digs in Vestfold. The ships were chosen for historical tradition. The merchant place in Kaupang was an important communication centre in the Viking period and must have been a meeting place for a wider region.
BTW, Tomislav made the right decision to make the ships equally long in the flag - it follows the Norwegian heraldic customs.
