The Algemeene Rijnschippers Bond (The General Rhine Skippers Association) was
established in 1898 to support the interest of the barge skippers on the river
Rhine. The association acted as a counterpart of the forwarders. The flag is
based on the colours of the flag of the city of Rotterdam. As the ARSB only
dealt with the interests of the skippers on the river Rhine, who though they
were superior to their colleges on the other rivers and canals of Holland,
another association was established in the same year: the Algemeene
Binnenschippers Bond. (General Inland Navigation Skippers Association) which
lasted only until 1905. The ARSB self was wound up in 2000 and the activities
taken over by the Centraal Bureau voor de Rijn en Binnenvaart. (Central Office
for the Rhine and inland navigation). This last institution itself was wound up
in April 2022 and became a part of Koninklijke Binnenvaart Nederland (Royal
Inland navigation Netherlands).
