adopted 28 Apr 1961
Haarzuilens was a peaceful little village in the municipality of Vleuten-De
Meern in Utrecht province. In 2001 the municipality and Haarzuilens became
part of the mighty city of Utrecht. However until 1954 Haarzuilens had
been an independent municipality, surrounding the mighty castle of "De
Haar", and it had done its level best to get itself a Coat of Arms. The sorrow story
is told at this
webpage, as proposal after proposal was sabred down by the officials
in Den Haag, just because something was lacking, and someone found it very
important that a dot should be where it wasn't. It appears that the Coat of Arms
was finally granted
in 1932 - but of course "De Haar" means "the hair", and don't officials
love splitting hares? :-)
On an unknown date the dear Haarzuilenaars even received a villageflag:
quartered red and white; on red three white diamonds; on red three stylized
columns, all placed 2 and 1.
