Stefan Lambrechts just received another nice surprise from the village of Scheerwolde, Steenwijkerland municipality in Overijssel province: a yellow flag with on top and bottom a narrow blue stripe of c. 1/5 flagheight; in the center a blue phoenix arising from the marshes.
The flag was designed by the Society for village interests Scheerwolde
(Plaatselijk Belang Scheerwolde) by using the vignette made by Peter Kessel
of the Watersportvereniging Scheerwolde. In 2001 the village celebrated
its 50th birthday, and received from the municipality of Steenwijkerland
a subsidy of € 1.815, to be spent on design and production of the
village flag, which was to be seen at three locations in the village. The
colors represent water, land, and sky.
Scheerwolde is only a few kilometers away from the beautiful nature
reserve "De Weerribben", formerly a peat-digging area, and now a marshy
area teeming with wildlife (and tourists).
