Wormerveer villageflag

Stefan Lambregts sent via the Benevex-list the link to the new villageflag of Wormerveer, now in Zaanstad municipality, Noord-Holland. It has a photo and a story (reinterpreted by me)
Wormerveer was a separate municipality until 1974, with a flag quartered white and red. When the municipality was dissolved the flag became obsolete, but on the occasion of the celebrations of 500 years of Wormerveer it has been restored as villageflag, with the addition in the canton of elements of the old Coat of Arms.
The old Coat of Arms was: quartered: the first and fourth gules with a lion argent; the second and third argent, with a lion gules.
On the new flag two red and two black lions have been put in a white canton - a red lion opposite a black, and a black opposite a red one.

Wormerveer former councilflag

On the Benevex-list Gerard Kuipers remarked that it was a pity that the old flag of the municipal council had not been restored.
Description: quartered of white and red, with in the center a lion countercharged.
This flag was used by the municipal council or by special citizens, such as honorary citizens, jubilating industries, etc.

Before the old simple quartered flag was adopted (30 Jan 1962) a red over white flag was used.
