Population (1 Jan 2003): 45.607; area: 68,15 km²; settlements: Waalwijk
(seat), Sprang-Capelle, Waspik.
On 1 Jan 1921 the former municipalities of Baardwijk, Besoyen,
Capelle, Sprang (later Sprang-Capelle) and Waalwijk merged to form the
new municipality of Waalwijk. On 1 Jan 1997 the former municipalities of
Sprang-Capelle, Waalwijk, and Waspik merged to form the new municipality
of Waalwijk.
Flagdescription: five vertical stripes red - yellow - black - yellow
- red, proportioned 1:1:2:1:1; in the center of the middle stripe a yellow
stylized eradicated oak tree with a height of 4/5 flagheight.

Flagdescription: white, with in the center a red, tongued and armed
blue lion, surrounded by a circle of 15 green lying blocks.
This flag was adopted 29 Sep 1961 by municipal resolution. Colors and
emblem were derived from the municipal arms (which only contains 8 blocks).
The 15 blocks represent the former manor of Wendelnesse.Spijkenisse municipality
