Grubbenvorst (former) municipality

On 1 Jan 2001 Grubbenvorst, Broekhuizen and Horst merged to form the new municipality of Horst aan de Maas.
Grubbenvorst is in north Limburg, just north of Venlo on the Maas river. This municipality is well known because of the asparagus-growth and because of the remnants of the castle of Grubbenvorst ('Het Gebroken Slot'), demolished in the 80-years war (1568-1648).
The flag is derived from the municipal Coat of Arms, which in turn was derived from Coat of Arms's of powerful families there.
