The flag of Tivat (photo, photo) is described in Article 4 of the Municipal Statutes (text), adopted in 2004, as follows:
The municipal flag is rectangular with a length of at least twice the width of its base, light blue with the coat of arms drawn in the middle.

The emblem of Tivat is described in Article 4 of the Municipal Statutes (text), adopted in 2004, as follows:
The coat of arms is a yellow shield. On it is shown in blue a bay-shaped dock with a figure of the city tower in the lower middle part. In the middle of the shield is a stylized figure of a ship in the T-shaped top.
The original design of the emblem (image) included a red five-pointed star atop of the T-shaped boat, which was slightly less high there to accommodate. The tower in base was depicted in red instead of yellow.
The emblem was designed by the journalist Pero Ćimbur from
Zagreb (obituary), author a number of designs in the 1970s and 1980s, in accordance with the heraldic style of the period, as well as a few in the 1990s. Tivat was his first sucessful design, as he relates it in the book Natjecanje za grb [cim85]. The public competition was announced in Politika in early 1974; Ćimbur entitled his design "A ship in a bay".
