Overview

Semigallia (Latvian: /Zemgale/) is located between the Daugava river in the north, Lithuanian border in the south and the land of Courland (/Kurzeme/) in the west; as such, it had also comprised the region of Selonia which is now recognized as a distinct historical land. Its largest city, Jelgava, had been the capital of the Duchy of Courland whose full name was actually Duchy of Courland and Semigallia.

Flag

The flag of Semigallia was adopted on 2023-09-29 in the decree by Latvian president Edgars Rinkēvičs. The decree is based on the proposal by the Latvian Historical Lands Development Council, issued on 2023-08-03, and the opinion of the State Heraldry Commission, issued on 2023-09-14. The flag is dark green with a white horizontal stripe in the center. The ratio of the widths of three fields is 2:1:2 and the overall ratio of the flag is 1:2. The shade of green is Pantone 7735 C.
