Muslims represented 7.6% of the population of Sri Lanka in 1981. The flag is
1:2, green with a white crescent and star at lower hoist and the white lettering
MRCA near the fly.

Objectives and Functions:
The main objective of the Department of Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs,
which comes under the Ministry of Eastern Development and Muslim Religious
Affairs, is to foster and promote Muslim Religious and Cultural Affairs and to
implement the Mosque and Muslim Charitable Trusts or Wakf Act. No 51 of 1956 as
amended by the Mosques and Muslim Charitable Trusts or Wakf (Amendment) Act No.
21 of 1962 and Act No. 33 of 1982.

Al-Hikma Foundation is a Muslim NGO. Per its website: "Al-Hikma" in Arabic
means "The Wisdom". While formed in 1990 by the name of ALHIKMAH FOUNDATION,
this Muslim-oriented foundation was registered in Sri Lanka in 1997, although in
its logo it uses the year 2000 as its establishment date. It claims to be an
apolitical NGO, "committed to spread the message of Allah". It operates
