Overview

Kiwanis International is a service club or service organization (that is: a voluntary nonprofit organization where members meet regularly to perform charitable works either by direct hands-on efforts or by raising money for other organizations). It was founded on January 21, 1915 by a group of businessmen in Detroit, Michigan. The organization was originally called the Supreme Lodge Benevolent Order of Brothers, BOB, but changed its name to Kiwanis a year later. It was initially opened to men only but since 1987, the organization has also accepted women as members. The name "Kiwanis" was coined from an American Indian expression, "Nunc Kee-wanis," which means, "We trade." The current headquarters are located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The current flag is a dark blue horizontal background with the new logo in the middle. The current logo's dark blue color is: Pantone 295 blue ; CMYK 100, 70, 0, 40 ; RGB 0, 57, 116 and the font types (primary and secondary) are: Knockout, Haettenschweiler, Avenir Next LT Pro, Arial, Adobe Garamond and Georgia. (Kiwanas Brand Book) The current logo, featured on the current flag, seems to have been introduced in 2020.

The first flag (above) is a white horizontal background with the first logo in the middle. It seems to have been in use for the 1916-1992 period. There seems to be a former flag with the former logo in the middle. It seems to have been in use for the 1996-2020 period.
