Vámosmikola is a village in Pest County in Hungary near to
the towns of Szob and túrovo (Párkány, SK) (23 km
north) in the left bank of the Ipoly River. The village has got
1.693inhabitants (1990 census) nearly all of them are Hungarians.
Neighbouring settlements are: Nagyborzsony,
Perőcsény villages in Hungary, Ipel'ský Sokolec
(Ipolyszakállas), ielovce (Ipolybél) and Pastovce
(Ipolypásztó) villages in Slovakia. The territory of the
village is inhabited from the Stone Age. In the territory of the
village there is a great Scythian cemetery and Avarian tombs. The
first mention of the village is from 1300. (Mikola means
Nicholaus in Slavic). All the settlers of the villages were serf.
1552-1593 and 1663-1685 under Turkish rule. In 1910 Vámosmikola
was a village in the Vámosmikola district of Hont County. Number
of inhabitants in 1910: 1.863; 1.847 (99,1%) Hungarian and 16
others by mother tongue, 1.525 (81,9%) Roman Catholic 171 (9,2%)
Jew, 146 (7,8%) Calvinist and 21 (1,1%) other by religion.
1920-1938 in Nógrád-Hont County, 1938-1945 in Bars-Hont County,
1945-1949 in Nógrád County and 1950-now in Pest County.
Ratio of the flag: 2:3. The coat of arms relates to the Ipoly
River, the agriculture and Saint Nicholaus.
