Presentation of Krašić

The municipality of Krašić (3,199 inhabitants in 2001, 699 in the village of Krašić) is located some 50 km southwest of Zagreb. The municipality is made of 33 settlements.
Since the Middle Ages a Noble Community, Krašić is known populary as the "Valley of Cardinals"; namely, two of the most important Croatian cardinals were born there (Alojzije Stepinac, Cardinal in 1952, beatified in 1998, and Franjo Kuharić, Cardinal in 1983).

Flag of Krašić

The symbols of Krašić are prescribed by Decision Odluka o grbu, zastavi i svečanoj zastavi (Općine Krašić, adopted on 26 January 1999 by the Municipality Assembly and published on 2 April 1999 in the Zagreb County official gazette Glasnik Zagrebačke Županije, No. 5.

The symbols, designed by the Heraldic Art d.o.o. company, from Rijeka, were approved on 14 July 1999 by Ministry of Administration.

The flag (photo) is described in Article 10 of the Decision, as follows:

The flag of the municipality of Krašić is red, in ratio of length to width: 2:1, in accordance with the Law. In the centre of the flag, at the crossing point of the diagonals, is the coat of arms of the municipality, on both sides, edged with a golden ribbon.
The ceremonial version of the rectangular official flag may have along the edges a golden fringe and bordering golden-yellow ribbon, on both sides.

The coat of arms is described in Article 7 of the Decision, as follows:

The coat of arms of the municipality of Krašić is the historical coat of arms of the municipality of Krašić in the shape of a semicircular, blue shield in which on a green mount is set a tree - proper (brown trunk, green top), and at the top of it sits a white dove.

The coat of arms has been featured on the seals of the Noble Community of Krašići since 1676, and was also painted in the Zagreb Town Hall around 1880. The modern design is largely based on the rendition by Lašovski [lsv39].

The coat of arms is sometimes used with a white inscription of year "1249." in white Gothic characters beneath the tree on the green mound. It is the year of the first mention of the town in written record.

The ceremonial flag (photo, photo) is a golden bordered dark red gonfalon with three triangularly ending tails with a golden fringe along the bottom edges, the municipality coat of arms in the centre with the year "1249" (the first record of the place name) inscribed in the base, the municipality name in two arches above and golden oak ornaments in the tails.
