Today, a white vertical flag is used with the coat of arms in the upper part and the text OPĆINA SVETI PETAR U ŠUMI below, and two thin lines on the longer edges of the flag. The coat of arms remains the same as used in 2001.

The coat of arms is "Azure two keys or in saltire wards down and outward and in a border or a wattle marron".
The keys are the attribute of St. Peter, the patron saint and namesake of the municipality.

The symbols of Sveti Petar u Šumi are described in the Municipality Statutes Statut općine Sveti Petar u Šumi, adopted on 24 October 2001 by the Municipality Council and published the same day in the local official gazette Službene novine Grada Pazina i Općina Cerovlje, Gračišće, Lupoglav, Karojba, Motvun, Sv. Peter u Šumi i Tinjan, No. 23 (text).
This is repeated in the next Municipality Statutes Statut općine Sveti Petar u Šumi, adopted on 8 February 2006 by the Municipality Council and published on 21 February 2006 in Službene novine Grada Pazina i Općina Cerovlje, Gračišće, Lupoglav, Karojba, Motvun, Sv. Peter u Šumi i Tinjan, No. 5 (text) and in the current Municipality Statutes Statut općine Sveti Petar u Šumi, adopted on 27 August 2009 by the Municipality Council and published on 29 September 2009 in Službene novine Grada Pazina i Općina Cerovlje, Gračišće, Lupoglav, Karojba, Motvun, Sv. Peter u Šumi i Tinjan, No. 20 (text).
Since the previous statutes (December 1993) did not describe the symbols and since there was no separate Decision about them in between, the adoption date of the 2001 Statutes is also the adoption date of the flag, 24 October 2001.
The flag is described as in proportions 2:1 (vertical), orange yellow with the coat of arms set in the middle so that its top matches the mid-line of the length and encircled with a semi-circular yellow inscription of the name of the municipality.

The flag was presented, which is vertical, orange-yellow with the coat of arms moved towards the bottom surrounded by yellow letters written with the name of the municipality in a semicircle.

The flag originally adopted in 1994 does not have a prescribed inscription on it.

The [1994] decision also prescribes a ceremonial flag, with the same basic appearance, with fringes along the edges and a golden yellow border along the upper edge.
