In 1894, Prosper Durand, a company based in Algiers, operated three steamships, Mayenne (112 tons), Seine (95 tons) and Jeanne-d'Arc (44 tons), supplemented in 1897 with the four ships Meylan (42 tons), Loire (480 tons),
Rhône-et-Saône (454 tons) and Gironde (165 tons). The company was involved in coastal navigation.
Mr. Prosper Durand (1863-1934) was listed among the members of the
Chamber of Commerce of Algiers in 1920.

The house flag of Prosper Durand is shown in Lloyd's book of house flags and funnels of the principal steamship lines of the world and the house flags of various lines of sailing vessels, published at Lloyd's Royal Exchange. London. E.C. (1912) [LLo12], also available online thanks to the Mystic Seaport Foundation, #94, p. 41, as vertically divided red-white-blue with the black letters "PD" in the middle of the white stripe.
