The municipality of La Haie-Fouassière (4,675 inhabitants in 2018; 1,181 ha) is located 15 km south-east of Nantes.
La Haie-Fouassière is home of a LU factory (Lefèvre-Utile, part of Mondelez International group), which employs 500 pepile to produce simple buscuits and crackers.
specializing in simple biscuits and crackers, employs 500 people. The plant produces over 9,000 tons of VPB (Véritable Petit-Beurre), a kind of shortbread from Nantes; this repreents about 1 billion biscuits packaged in 41 million packs of VPB each year.
In 1993, the Municipal Council appointed the architect of the LU factory, Jean-Claude Imbach, to decorate a roundabout at the entrance to the municipality near the LU factory. Imbach proposed a futuristic design representing a flying saucer of five meters in diameter surrounded by three astronauts of two meters in height carrying emblems of the town, a fouace, a bottle of Muscadet wine, and a Petit-Beurre shaped standard, respectively. The saucer lights up in different colors at nightfall.
The storytelling has it that the astronauts stocked up on local
products before leaving the Earth for a galactic journey. The decoration of the Space roundabout (photo) costed 2,700,000 francs, half of which was funded by LU; accordingly, the company compensates the municipality for the exemption of professional tax during the first years of operation.
The main objective of the mayor, attracting media attention, was more or less achieved, since thr roundabout was the subject of television reports... on the waste of public money

The flag of La Haie-Fouassière (photo) is white with the municipal coat of arms, "Azure a bend sinister wavt between cantonned by a
leaved bunch of grapes and a fouace all or a chief ermine".
The coat of arms, designed by Henri Gaudin, was adopted on 11 December 1987 by the Municipal Council.
Fouace, the town's namesake, is a star-shaped dry cake with a brioche flavor, traditionally eaten during the tasting of Muscadet and other local wines in fall. The chief ermine represents the Duchy of Brittany.
