Saint-Seurin-sur-l'Isle (3,151 inhabitants in 2021; 883 ha) is a commune in the Gironde department.

One of the first mentions of the town was, in the 12th century, the construction of a fortified church on the banks of the Isle. Built on Roman foundations, it defended the passage of the river and later served as a refuge for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
Ruined by the Huguenots in the 17th century and then rebuilt, it retains from the Roman period only the apse and the north wall.
The economic prosperity of Saint-Seurin-sur-l'Isle developed under English domination which lasted three centuries until the Battle of Castillon in 1453.
The 18th century was a period of renovation after the wars of religion with in particular the layout of a Libourne-Montpon road via Saint Seurin sur l'Isle.
The second half of the 19th century saw the town enter the industrial era. In his factory in Saint Seurin, the English engineer William Jackson was the first to apply the Bessemer process for transforming cast iron into steel. The process was then rapidly diffused in the majority of the industrialized countries of the world. The 20th century accentuated the industrial vocation of the town with the creation in 1892 of the still active capsule factory, taken over by Péchiney Capsules of the ALCAN group. In 1907, Georges Soustre created the Soustre packaging and corrugated cardboard factory, currently the SMURFIT SOCAR factory. The town, which is still highly industrial, has two of the largest factories in the region, Alcan Packaging Capsules and Smurfit Kappa.
In 1988, Pierre Durand, a child of Saint-Seurin-sur-l'Isle, and his horse Jappeloup de Luze won the gold medal in show jumping at the Olympic Games in Seoul. Jappeloup will be trained and will end his life in the stables of Pierre Durand at the Equestrian Center of Saint-Seurin-sur-l'Isle.
