The municipality of Saint-Cast-le-Guildo (in Breton, Sant-Kast-Ar-Gwildoù; 3,334 inhabitants in 2021, 2,263 ha) was established in 1972 as the merger of the former municipalities of Notre-Dame-du-Guildo and Saint-Cast.
The battle of Saint-Cast was fought on 11 September 1758. An English raid by sea on the region of Dinard was stopped at river Rance by the Vauban fortifications. Withdrawing to their ships moored off St-Cast, the assaulters were attacked on the beach by Emmanuel-Armand de Vignerot du Plessis-Richelieu, Duke of Aiguillon. The casualties were higher (1,160) for the English than for the French (445) troops. The battle is commemorated by a monument featuring a greyhound defeating a lion.

The flag of Saint-Cast-le-Guildo, either blue with white logo or white
with blue logo, can be widely observed in the commune.

The commune adopted in march 2018 a new logo [source: Ouest-France]:
"We wanted to define a graphic charter and create a less figurative
logo, more generic, simpler and recognizable at first glance",
explains Olivier Cojean, deputy mayor. Judging the previous logo to be
too restrictive to symbolize the municipality, the municipality
appealed to the company from Dinan Cocktail Graphic. After many
discussions, the decision to take the name of the commune to develop
the logo was retained, in a dense monochrome blue, which will allow it
to be used in positive or negative circumstances. This configuration
should provide flexibility of use and be an opportunity to harmonize
the municipality's communication."
According ot the agency [source: corporate website], "the general shape of the logo, composed in a staggered way, conveys the notion of movement and dynamism. The composition of the text forming an oblique, can also evoke the geographical configuration of the town between Saint-Cast and Le Guildo. The characters used to compose Saint-Cast Le Guildo are in 2 different fonts to evoke a balance and complementarity between the notions of modernity/vitality and history/tradition. In order to give an elegant character, to ensure maximum readability and to guarantee great ease of use, the logo has been treated in a monochrome way with the definition of a dense blue color. It can also be used in white on a blue background. The 2 waves give a seat and a base to the logo. They evoke the two main natural elements of the city: the sea and the Arguenon river. They make it possible to affirm the strong maritime character of the city. Finally, the blue curve brings an aerial aspect and reinforces the notions of dynamism and movement. It can symbolize 2 elements: a boat sail that evokes the world of the sea, boating and fishing. A plant element evoking nature, the countryside."
