Tangled is the retelling of the fairytale story of Rapunzel, but with
Rapunzel herself given a much more prominent role as the heroine of the
story. In the movie, Rapunzel is the daughter of the king and queen of
an unnamed kingdom. Kidnapped as an infant, Rapunzel is raised in a
secluded tower in the forest never knowing her true identity. The
majority of the storyline revolves around Rapunzel's attempt to learn
more about herself by getting out of the tower and seeing the
countryside. In the end, she finds herself in the town that surrounds
the castle at the heart of the unnamed kingdom. It's there that we see
the flags of the kingdom.
And it's the design of the flag that later in the movie
finally triggers Rapunzel's memories of who she really is.

There are two flags that are seen during the movie. One is a
rectangular flag with a golden sun centered on a purple field. The other
is a triangular pennant of the same design. Both are seen throughout the
town and flying from the castle itself.
