The flag and arms (image) of Geria are prescribed by a Decree adopted on 26
July 1996 by the Valladolid Provincial Government, signed on 8 August
1996 by the President of the Government, and published on 22 August
1996 in the official gazette of Castilla y León, No. 162 (text).
The symbols are described
as follows:
Flag: Rectangular flag, with proportions 1:2, horizontally divided yellow and sky blue. In the middle of the flag is placed the municipal coat of arms in full colors.
Coat of arms: Per fess, 1. Gules a castle or masoned sable port and windows azure, 2. Or three elms proper per fess on waves azure and argent. The shield surmounted with a Royal Spanish crown.
The Royal Academy of History proposed modifications to the symbols. The castle shown on the first quarter of the arms has the same colors as the castle on the arms of Castile, which should be changed; for instance, the field could be changed to blue to match the proposed flag. In the second quarter, the waves should cover completely the base of the shield. The amended arms would be "Per fess, 1. Azure a castle or, 2. Or three elms vert on waves. The shield surmounted with a Royal Spanish crown." The Academy proposed to swap the colors of the flag - blue on top and yellow on bottom - to match the coat of arms (Boletín de la Real Academia de la Historia, 1997, 194, 2: 387).
