The municipality of Gerindote (2,341 inhabitants in 2014; 4,400 ha) is located 30 km north of Toledo.

Gerindote is named for the Arab toponym Yinān Dāwūd, meaning "David's Garden". The village was once known as Girendoth, Girenduch, Gerindot, Gerindote and Zerindote. Once owned by the Bishop of Segovia, Gerindote was transferred by the Catholic Monarchs to Gutierre de Cárdenas.
