Presentation of Alcañizo

The municipality of Alcañizo (275 inhabitants in 2018 vs. 985 in 1940; 1,351 ha) is located 110 km west of Toledo.
Alcañizo is one of the 47 municipalities (out of 9,122) that have been governed by the same Mayor, here César Sánchez Alegría, since the first democratic elections held in 1979.

The flag of Alcañizo (photo) is prescribed by an Order issued on 23 November 1998 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 4 December 1998 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 57, p. 9,558 (text).
The flag is described as follows:

Flag: Composed of two horizontal stripes, parallel and of the same size, the upper, red, and the lower, blue. The tight part of the flag covered by a yellow triangle reaching the center. On this yellow field, centered, the coat of arms of Alcañizo.

The coat of arms of Alcañizo is prescribed by an Order issued on 23 November 1998 by the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and published on 4 December 1998 in the official gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, No. 57, p. 9,558 (text).
The coat of arms is described as follows:

Coat of arms: In Spanish shape. Per pale, 1. Gules (red) a three-arched bridge over water argent the pimes sable (black), 2. Chequerd eight azure (blue) and seven argent. Grafted in base, Vert (green) an olive tree eradicated argent the trunk proper. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.
