The municipality of Algarinejo (2,943 inhabitants in 2013; 3,195 ha; municipal website) is located on the border with the Province of Córdoba, 80 km from Granada.

Symbols of Algarinejo

The flag and arms of Algarinejo, adopted on 6 October 1997 by the Municipal Council and revised on 28 May 1998, as suggested on 16 April 1998 by the Royal Academy of Córdoba, are prescribed by Decree No. 149, adopted on 14 July 1998 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 20 August 1998 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 93, pp. 10,722-10,723 (text). This was confirmed by a Decree adopted on 30 November 2004 by the Government of Andalusia and published on 20 December 2004 in the official gazette of Andalusia, No. 246, pp. 28,986-29,002 (text).
The symbols are described as follows:

Flag: Rectangular flag, in proportions 2:3, made of two equal vertical stripes, green at hoist and white at fly, charged with a countercoloured rectangle.
Coat of arms: Per pale, 1. Gules, 2. Argent, a house countercoloured The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed.

The name of the municipality comes from two Arab estates, Algarín and Nejo, representedon the arms by a countercoloured house. Green and white are the colours of Andalusia.
