Presentation of Pajarón

The municipality of Pajarón (81 inhabitants in 2018; 5,261 ha) is located 50 km south-east of Cuenca.
The battle of Pajarón opposed in 21 August 1289 the troops of King of Castile Sancho IV, supported by the Order of Saint John, to an Aragonese coalition led by Diego López V de Haro. The battle turned to a disaster for the Castilian party: the Galician knight Rui Páez de Sotomayor who commanded the troops as the king's Justicia Mayor was killed, as were several knights of the Order, the Grand Commander of the Priorate of Uclès included.
