The municipality of Villahoz (351 inhabitants in 2012; 5,053 ha; municipal website) is located in the west of the Province of Burgos, 40 km from Burgos.
Villahoz was mentioned for the first time in 1074 in the dowry of Jimena, the Cid's wife, as Villa Fabze; this name is probably a deformation of the Mozarabic toponym Hazme. The village was subsequently known as Fauz and Fauce (1214), Oz, and eventually Hoz. The village, once surrounded by walls built in the 12th-14th centuries, always belonged to the Royal domain, as emphasized by the Gothic pillory erected in the village.

The flag of Villahoz, designed by the Spanish Vexillological Society, is vertically divided green-white-yellow with the municipal coat of arms in the middle.
The coat of arms of Villahoz is "Vert an arm armed argent holding a
billhook of the same hilted or in base a billhook argent hilted or.
The shield surmounted by a Royal Spanish crown".
A coat of arms charged with a billhook was granted in September 1506
to Villahoz by King Philip I the Handsome.
