Overview

Patricia Pilar parish was established on 19 September 1996 as part of Buena Fe canton (Los Ríos).

Patricia Pilar is named for the school established in 1963 by landlord Demetrio Encalada to educate his employees' children. As a reward, the parents named the school for his two daughters, Patricia and Pilar.

On 20 September 1973, a group of local inhabitants set up a committee to acquire plots and establish a settlement near the school. One year later, they purchased 4 hectares from Severo Bajaña, which allowed 68 poor families to settle, with the support of the municipality of Santo Domingo de los Colorados. More plots were acquired the next years from Compañía Monapel. More than 500 children attended classes in the old school, which was soon deemed too small.

Since the Los Ríos provincial authorities did not care of them, the inhabitants of Patricia Pilar offered their manpower to the Pichincha province, which resulted in a renewed interest from Los Ríos. With the support of the Mayor of Quevedo, six classrooms, streets and wells were established for the community. Due to demographic increase, Compañía Monapel offered more plots.

The flag of Patricia Pilar is horizontally divided green-yellow-blue with the parish coat of arms in the center.
