The parish of La Iberia (3,709 inhabitants) is part of El Guabo canton (El
Oro province). The parish is composed of five boroughs, 8 de Diciembre, 26 de
Abril, 12 de Octubre, 10 de Agosto, and 16 de Noviembre, and of two sites, La
Palestina and Riveras del Jubones. La Iberia developed on a territory once owned
by a family of Spanish origin, therefore its name. The parish of La Iberia was
established on 13 April 1988.

The flag of La Iberia is horizontally divided blue-white-green, with a yellow
triangle placed along the hoist. Blue, a most intense and bright colour,
represents majestic and impetuous river Jubones that crosses the parish,
irrigating several agricultural areas of El Oro province, La Iberia included.
Blue also represents the vast sky over La Iberia.
White, a most pacific colour, is a symbol of the wide quarries of Jubones, from
which are extracted huge amounts of stony material use to revamp the roads all
over the province. White also represents peace and purity, as features of the
inhabitants of La Iberia.
Green, a beautiful colour, represents the agricultural resources of the parish,
first of all the immense plantations of banana and cocoa trees. The yellow
triangle is a symbol of the resources of the parish (rivers, agriculture,
cattle-breeding). It is also a symbol of the spiritual resources of the
inhabitants.
