SAL - Schiffahrtskontor Altes Land GmbH & Co. KG , not to be mismatched with the namesake South African Lines, is specialised to heavy lift shipping. The company is based in Steinkirchen (Stade County).
The roots of this company can be backtracked until 1865, when Wilhelm Heinrich caused the construction of SS AMOENITAS, executed by the Sietas dockyard. In 1911 his son Johann Heinrich, caused the construction of SS CAPELLA, a sailing ship with engine, also made by Sietas. There is no further nformation before 1920, when Paul Heinrich became head of the business, which since then was registered as a shipping company. Paul Heinrich offered a partnership to his sons Hans and Klaus. Both worked as charterer or captain for Peter Döhle, left the company however in 1980 and established their own company Schiffahrtskontor Altes Land GmbH, better known as SAL. Since 1985 the company became a specialist for heavy lift shipping. In 2012 the company was renamed to SAL Heavy Lift GmbH.
