Introduction

Horizontal bicolor black-yellow. Officially adopted 28 April 1884. Used as flag of Saxony-Anhalt State 1946-1952
Norman Martin, March 1998

The Provinz Sachsen is not to be mixed up with the Königreich Sachsen, later the Freistaat Sachsen. Provincial flags for the Provinces of Prussia were prescribed from 1882 onwards... On 5th March 1884, the parliament adopted the black-yellow flag, confirmed by the Prussian King (i.e. the Emperor William II) 28th April 1884. This flag lasted until 1935 and was also used after 1945.
