Shield Argent, an impending defence tower Gules with pavilion roof and masoned basement.
Meaning:
The Counts of Calw built a castle around 1100. In the 2nd half of the 13th century a city as centre of an area of forest clearance in the Northern Black Forest developed near the castle, until 1272 a possession of the Counts of Eberstein. The first city seal with prints since 1490 probably existed since 1400. It already displayed the hexagonal tower of the current arms. A painting from 1535 displayed the tower red in a blue shield. In 1566 and in 1605 (Siebmacher) the tower was coloured blue in a silver field.
