Shield Argent, an eradicated oak Vert, in chief an eagle Gules armed Or.
Meaning:
The eagle is alluding to the Margraves of Brandenburg, who founded the first settlement about 1250. The oak is canting. The name means "oak in the wood". The pattern is known from a fragment of a city seal from 1307 and the print of a secret seal from 1559. On both seals the eagle had been in an inescutcheon. Since July 2008 the city is entitled to use the epithet "city of windmills" (German: Windmühlenstadt).
