Coat of Arms

Shield Azue, St. Michael, dressed and winged Or, nimbed Argent, the nimbus charged with a crosslet Gules. The angel holds a sword and a pair of scales, both Argent, in his hands.
Meaning:
Schlüchtern gained city rights and its oldest seal around 1560 from the Counts of Hanau. The seal displayed St. Michael, the local patron saint, with his attributes sword and scales. Due to misinterpretation of the seal the figure had been considered to be Justitia, the Goddess of Justice, because the long robe appeared to be a female robe.
