Shield parted per fess, above Gules an eagle Or, beneath Or two symmetric water-lily leaves Gules.
The city was built in 1970 and kept the coat of arms of the Amt Rietberg, consisting of the municipalities of Bokel, Druffel, Mastholte,Moese, Neuenkirchen, Rietberg, Varensell and Westerwiehe.
The coat of arms was granted on 14 May 1937. It was kept with permission of 28 June 1971. The Amt Rietberg was a sovereign county at least up to 1803, probably up to 1815 (Vienna Congress).
Meaning:
The eagle was the ensign of an offspring of the Counts of Arnsberg, who founded their county in 1237. The water-lilies are symbolising the location in a swampy region.
