According to Rabbow the flag from 1960 to 1974 was yellow-red instead of red-yellow.

Shield Gules a castle Or, charged with a 10-fold rosette Gules.
Meaning:
The castle is not much more then an embattled tower, consisting finally of just four rectangles. It is symbolising Liebenburg castle, ercted by Bishop Siegfried II of Hildesheim as a stronghold against the Dukes of Braunschweig. The castle is name giver of the actual settlement and the current municipality as well. The rosette is symbolising the ten settlement cores of the municipality and their equipollency.
The arms were approved on 31 May 1974. The draft was made by Philipp Schmidt.

Shield Argent, a modified pentagram Sable with two of its points ending in hammer and mallet.
Meaning:
Hammer and mallet are representing mining, especially the Fortuna pit, the main employer of the local people between 1868 and 1963. The pentagram is taken from a seal from 1307 of Bartold of Döhren, a patrician of Goslar, originated in Döhren.

Meaning:
The municipality took this sign from the coat of arms of the Mander kin (admonisher) as it is proven since 1330.

Shield Gules a castle Or, charged with three water lily leaves Gules in pale.
Meaning:
The castle's silhouette with the water lily leaves is reminding on Lievethe village, known since 1131, later on called Lewe. An even older settlement was finally name giver of the local castle. Lewe and Liebenburg existed side by side. And Lewe was united with Liebenburg in 1937.
The arms were approved on 17 October 1960. The draft was made by Philipp Schmidt.
