Shield parted per fess; above Sable a lion passant Or, armed and tongued Gules; beneath lozengy of Argent and Azure, on heart point an inescutcheon Gules charged with a local symbol Or.
Meaning:
Lion and lozenges are symbolising the rule of the Palatine Electorate and appeared on all local seals since the 15th century. In the 19th century only the pattern of the inescutcheon was in use on local seals and border stones. Based on a draft of Otto Hupp (1928) the former pattern was restored in 1939. The inescutcheon was added as a distinguishing mark in 1961.
