Oval shield Or with Baroque frame Maron, on central peak of a triplemount issuant Vert a parakeet Azure armed Gules.
Meaning:
The village was donated to the Cistercian Grünhain Monastery in 1250 and was first mentioned in 1286. In 1300 a hammer mill was built, which was replaced by a paper mill in 1545. In the middle of the 15th century silver ore was found and the village gained mining privileges. It was mentioned as a market town in 1460, as a city in 1501 and as a mining city in 1566. The city was divided into a ducal part and an electoral part. Since the 16th century, after mining had declined, all kinds of crafts settled down in the city. The triplemount is representing the landscape in the Erzgebirge. The parakeet (German: Sittich), a small kind of parrot, is alluding to the Cistercian monks, who originally came from Sittichenbach in Mansfeld. The arms are based on a town seal from 1474

Shield Azure (celestial blue), under the sky an acre Maron with furrows Sable, at its end seven firs Vert, at its front a meadow Vert charged with a pyramid of 10 stones Argent ordered 1:2:3:4, base Argent two barrulets Azure, chief an isosceles triangle Or flanked by two narrow triangles Gules and charged in centre with an eye Azure.
Meaning:
The arms don´t match heraldic rules, also the predecessor of the current arms, which only displayed a linden proper on yellow base and under celestial blue sky. The trunk was surrounded by green pieces of lawn. Local seals from 1870 however displayed a fir on ground and the trunk was flanked by the numbers "18" (dexter) and "70" (sinister).

Meaning:
The green colour is one of the tinctures of Sachsen. Ears and rake are symbolising agriculture, the stocking is symbolising hosiery knitting. There are different interpretations about the ears, e.g. life and death, growth and seasons, good and dying environment.
