Shield parted per fess; above Argent a bend Sable charged with an eagle Or; beneath parted per fess, above parted per pale of Gules and Argent, beneath Azure, over all an embattled tower Or masoned Sable.
Meaning:
The eagle on a bend is taken from the family arms of the name giving Lords of Syrgenstein-Altenberg. The family lived in Altenberg Castle since 1693. The background of the lower half displays the arms of the Lords of Westerstetten, who owned the Staufen district (Bavarian: Hofmark) and the Lordship of Altenberg between 1390 and 1471 and later between 1549 and 1637. The tower is a representation of the so called "old tower of Staufen", the remains of the former Blosenstaufen Castle. The tower had also been part of the former municipal arms of Staufen. Syrgenstein merged with Staufen and Landshausen in 1978. Before in 1971 the municipalities of Altenberg and Ballhausen merged and formed the municipality of Syrgenstein.
