Shield Gules a gate Argent masoned Sable with port and windows of the same, topped by a tower of the same, both having swallow tailed embattlements.
Meaning:
It is supposed that Laufen had proper seals since 1287. Prints existed since 1315. The current arms are based on that seal. Only two flowers on either side were omitted. Since the 16th century the pattern changed in details, e.g. an additional portcullis or different shape of the tower. The tincture of port and windows sometimes is red or white. When the city was acquired by Bayern, the background tincture was changed to blue between 1816 and 1857.
