Ammerthal Coat of Arms

Shield parted per fess, above Gules on top of a mount issuant Argent a swan combattant of the same, barry of four of Gules and Argent.
Meaning:
The swan is taken from the arms of a certain Duke Otto of Ammerthal, also known as Otto of Ambergdol, whose historical existance couldn´t be proven. The swan can also be found on the arms of the minster of Kastl. Despite of the disputable sources the municipality identified itself with that hearaldic animal. The lower half is taken from the personal arms of Hermann Ammerthaler, last owner of the Oberammerthal district (Bavarian:Hofmark ), who died in 1373.
