Info: Tlumačov is located in the flat scenery of the southern part
of the Haná Region, on the central reaches of the River Morava. Bishop
Jindřich Zdík included the location in the list (dating from 1141) of farmsteads
belonging to the church. Connected to the Vienna-Cracow railway line in
the early 1840s, Tlumačov grew in importance. The local 14th century St
Martin`s Church has preserved Gothic frescos; the parsonage with a courtyard
dates from 1759. A nearby small chapel supplements the church complex.
In the 1700s, the small town acquired some smaller architectural elements
in the form of statues (depicting the Holy Trinity and St John Nepomuk)
and crosses. The Mansion, originally a Renaissance structure, currently
serves for catering purposes. The surrounding scenery offers an opportunity
to get to know the area`s unique flora and fauna, in particular, the habitats
of waterfowl, including the Tlumačovská Pool, the Kurovický Quarry, the
Záhlinické Fishponds and Skalka. A cycling trail connects Tlumačov with
Zlín, Kroměříž and Hostýn Hills. Of the local cultural events the most
noteworthy is the Day of Haná folklore festival, held in June. Acting in
cooperation with the Historical Association, the village has brought to
life the Tlumačov folk costumes as part of efforts to revive folk traditions.
Sports activities enjoy great popularity in Tlumačov as is attested to
by the local vaulting club (gymnastic exercises over a horse), which has
scored some international successes."
