According to Wikipedia, "It was named Aguirre until February 2015, when its
name was changed following a vote in the Legislative Assembly. The name Quepos
refers to the Quepoa people who inhabited this area in pre-Columbian and
colonial times."
The flag of the canton of Quepos was unveiled on October
30, 2019. The flag was created by the Commission of Culture, made up of members
of the municipal council, and supported by firefighter Freizer Castillo. It was
approved by the municipal council unanimously.
Symbolism is as follows:
Orange - The sunset of the town
Green - The town's nature
White and
blue - The colors of the sky
Red - The blood of Quepeños
Three stars
represent the three districts, Quepos, Savegre, and Naranjito.

The coat of arms displays a key, the method to open up progress and
development. The sea and barge represents fishing, the maritime transportation
of agricultural products to Puntarenas, and importation of cattle. The cattle's
head represents livestock activity in the area. The ears of rice represent rice
farming in the canton. Finally, the crown represents the dignity of being a
city.
