Institución Técnica Industrial de Zipaquirá (ITIZ) was inaugurated on 6
February 1950, as Escuela Industrial, to be renamed to Escuela de Artes y
Offices Tulio Ospina by Decree No. 3,338, issued on 24 December 1953, eventually
upgraded to ITIZ by Decree No. 2,433, issued in 1959.
The flag of ITIZ is
horizontally divided green-white-green (1:2:1) with the school's coat of arms in
the center. Green is a symbol of hope. White is a symbol of peace and purity.
The coat of arms was designed by Rafael Eduardo López Rodríguez, in
compliance with the norms of heraldry. The shield has an ovoid shape, in
proportions 6:5, with a point in base. The shield is divided into two equal
parts by a diagonal, in heraldic language, a bend sinister. The colors, argent
(white) and vert (green) are those of the school's flag. The upper quarter
(chief) features on a field vert a book gules (red) symbolizing science and
culture and a micrometer argent (white) symbolizing technology. In the center of
the shield is placed the logotype of the school, made of the school's name or
surrounding a sphere or charged with the letters "ITI" argent and vert, curved
to match the shape of the sphere. Letter "I", the initial of "Instituto" is
placed over letter "T", the initial of "Técnico"; the "I" placed diagonally
represents a man's torse, the dot on the "T" forming the man's head. The arm of
letter "T" is also the man's arm. The sphere or represents the resources offered
by industrial technical
education. Beneath is placed a green cartouche
inscribed with "ZIPAQUIRÁ" in red letters. The whole means "technical education
in Zipaquirá as a hope for regional development". Green, white and red are also
the colors of Zipaquirá.
