The Municipality

The municipality of Grosses-Roches (394 inhabitants in 2016; 6,365 ha) is located on the southern shore of the Saint Lawrence River, 30 km north-east of Matane and 130 km north-east of Rimouski.

Grosse-Roches was established at the end of the 19th century near the eponymous brook, named for the big rocks ("grosses roches") that border it.
The Saints-Sept-Frères des Grosses Roches mission was established in 1864, depending on the Sainte-Félicité parish. For whatever reason, its erection to a parish, granted on 14 March 1963, took nearly one century.
The municipality of Grosses-Roches was established on 19 August 1939 and inaugurated on 3 October 1939.

Description of the flag

A photo of this flag form 2006 was posted this month by Luc Vartan Baronian in the FOTW Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/flagsoftheworld/permalink/4223829134298443

The coat of arms used on this flag is explained on this page: http://www.municipalite.grossesroches.ca/histoire.html:

On the arms, the wheat garb is a symbol of the land resources, which feed people. Green represents the forest§, a source of income, warmth and beauty.
The ship symbolizes the resources supplied by the sea, which is a source of greatness and calm; it also represents effort, audacity and tenacity.
Blue represents the greatness of oceans, rivers, lakes and streams, which are symbols of force and energy. The immensity accessible to all supplies fresh air from the deep ocean.
The rainbow is a symbol of the alliance of God with us, emphasizing the force of faith and the constant presence of God in everyone.
The motto reads "Future Rising Hope".
